How I hit 100k gold

December 21, 2009

As some of you have noticed who have read the first of my posts I started off making my money off enchanting materials and tailoring (netherweave bags) with a whopping starting capital of 666 gold (evil I know). That start got me into the 10k gold range in about a month. Kind of slow for someone who was motivated to hit gold cap eventually I know, but everyone has to learn at their own pace.

With 10k gold in my pocket I started thinking about ways I could speed up this process. I already had an alt I had started leveling jewelcrafting on a long time ago and was already level 61 so it just needed 4 levels to be able to max out it’s professions. I also got the bright idea from many other bloggers that inscription may be the way to go for another big boost in gold. I quickly leveled my shaman to 65 through battle grounds since that character was resto and I was being cheap and didnt want to respec. With that done I leveled up my professions and started to make some money.

Gradually I put my netherweave bag business to the side since there were multiple people jumping into the waters on that one and it was no longer making the money that I wanted from it. The shaman started off doing the saronite shuffle with help from my enchanter and started to rake in fast cash off enchanting materials. I also started the long long grind of learning all of the glyphs.

Eventually when I had learned enough glyphs I starting making inscription as my primary means of money making. My strategy has always been to work the most profitable market and leave the others as backup in case the current market turns sour. I do this mainly so that I have time to actually play the game and raid with my 2 level 80’s. This does make it a lot harder to make 10k a week but I am quite happy with my 30 mins of auction house work daily for 500-1k gold a day. This does change though when the Darkmoon Faire comes to town and in that 1 week I generally make 20-40k gold.

In general I use 1 character for all of my glyphs that I post which means a travel back to the bank when I go to get the next batch to post. I only sell glyphs that have an average cost on my server of 3g or over which means I have cut a lot of space out of my inventory of various leveling glyphs and a few useless glyphs that get flooded regularly below that price. I run 8 full inscription bags of glyphs and I currently know all of the glyphs in the game. I keep around 1.5k-2k inks on hand for anything I may need to make at any time. I keep stacks of glyphs between 5-10 depending on popularity and I tend to restock daily.

This is the basics of how I work my business. There isn’t much to it and there is a low upkeep for it so I can do lots of other things.

Purchasing Primordial Saronite

December 16, 2009

Primordial Saronite is going to be a hot commodity in about 3 weeks. At this time it isn’t such a big deal because there are few people with patterns and you can’t finish the first part of the quest for Shadowmourne yet. Add the fact that it is at such a high price means it will start dropping very quickly now that people will have 23 badges shortly from just running the daily heroic daily.

So for those wondering what the heck this post is going to be about I will tell you my thoughts on when to buy up primordial saronite for a quick turn around on it that will equal profit.

In about 2 -2 1/2 weeks you should start noticing primordial saronite on servers hitting around 1.5-2k gold each if not lower. This is going to be your time to buy these up. The reason you are buying these up is because people will start getting excited to get that first leg of the Shadowmourne quest done and they need 25 Primordial Saronite to do it, but many of these people won’t start picking up the Saronite until after they kill the 2 bosses in the Plague wing. So starting on Weds. or Thurs. of the week that wing opens up you should start seeing prices rise on Primordial Saronite back into the 2k-2.5k range. There should also be enough patterns floating about at that time for people to start making the crafted items out of the Primordial Saronite. These prices I speculate to continue for at least a month or until the final wing opens up and people are getting multiple Primordials a week from badges to sell on the auction house.

All in all this should be a good way to make a quick buck in a couple weeks if you play your cards right and work off the demand of all those Shadowmourne chasers.

Patch 3.3 and gold making.

December 9, 2009

There are a lot of money making strategies to be used in this patch. New pets, new glyphs, new turn ins, transmutes off cooldown, new gear that needs enchants and gems.

For those of you reading I hope you got into the market on Heavy Borean Leather -> Arctic Furs quickly and if you didn’t and still have the Heavy Borean Leather I would try you luck just selling that for a while. The same is also true with Saronite Bars -> Titanium Bars. At this point just sell the saronite since it is starting to move up in price quickly.  With Saronite going up in price you can expect uncommon quality gems to slowly creep up in price as well as enchanting materials to move up in price.

The new vendor pets seem to be getting a lot less play out there with players and this should be a great money maker for those willing to front a little bit of money for a good return. With max faction you should be able to purchase these new pets for 40g each and then walk over to the auction house and make a tidy profit off them. I also noticed that there is a bug with the auction house with these. I noticed when posting them I didn’t see a deposit and when I received my money from the mail box it was the same exact price I posted the pets at. Of course in my frantic run to get these posted I may have just missed that I was posting them at a price where the 5% cut was the exact cost of the deposit.  Also when selling these pets DO NOT OFFER THEM IN TRADE CHANNEL. You are just asking to get undercut on the auction house as well as called an idiot by the masses and leak to many of the M&S that would buy from you the information that they are on a vendor.

If you have epic gems in stock you should be cutting the popular cuts and off loading them on the auction house a few at a time. Sales are pretty brisk at this time and it has been difficult to keep many gems in stock.

The new glyph recipes are from the vendor in Dalaran and are a limited buy but they respawn quickly. Even still you can sell these recipes on the auction house for a tidy profit. As for the new glyphs expect some heavy competition, but if you are a camper you can make a tidy profit from these glyphs quickly as people snatch them up all week. Be ready for the weekend where they should continue to move as the crowd that logs in during that time crashes through the auction house.

Overall I may not be the largest player in the gold game out there but just from yesterday I made a very tidy profit just working these angles. 4k for 30 minutes worth of work and no camping made for a very good gold day.
