Boss Design (fun post)

January 29, 2010

For those of you who are only interested in making money on the auction house this post is not for you. You have been warned. I am posting this because I had an idea for an interesting boss design that I really haven’t seen done before and could be a lot of fun if something was ever designed like this.

Design:

Boss: Night Elf Priest Jessabell Vana’thol

HP: 5,000,000 (10 man) 15,000,000 (25 man)

Abilities:

Mass Dispell – Removes up to 15 self cast debuffs and  buffs per friendly character  in the room and provides Empowered Nova Charges per Empowered Renew dispelled this way. Cast just prior to her Empowered Nova.

Empowered Renew – casts every 2 seconds (1 second on hard mode) stackable, heals for 2k per stack on a friendly target, stacks up to 5 times, is cast as a magic debuff on pcs

Empowered Nova – Casts every 30 seconds. 1 second cast time. Deals 2k damage per charge to entire room, removes all charges after cast, breaks mind control.

Additional Factors in fight:

Untargetable Evil Character

Raises 5 weak undead allies every 10 seconds

Raises 2 Very Strong undead allies every 15 seconds

Pulses a 3k ae damage to the entire room per every 2 seconds (1 second on hard mode)

Mind Control: Targets Jessabell and mind controls her. No end duration. 2 second cast time, 30 second recast.

The basic premise of this fight being an execution fight with multiple decisions involved. Your dps time on the boss will only be in 30 second intervals with 30 second breaks. You must decide how many empowered renews you would like floating around on characters in the raid because you will receive 15 of them on normal mode prior to the mass dispell and if you don’t remove the Empowered Renews off your raid they will stack up and kill you when she Nova’s. If you leave the Empowered Renews up though it will greatly help with your raid healing of the ae damage. It will be a fine balance as well because after the first mass dispell you will no longer have any buffs other then totems and you will have to deal with increasing numbers of undead over time if your dps is slacking. You will also receive no Empowered Renews on your raid when it is time to dps the boss, but the undead will receive them and they must be dispelled or you eat a lot of damage when she Nova’s again.

Basic Fight Run Down:

Enagage. Jessabell is friendly and starts casting Empowered Renew’s on the raid. First set of undead spawn, 5 weak. 10 Seconds later another 5 weak undead spawn. 5 Seconds after this 2 Strong undead spawn. 5 Seconds later more weak undead spawn. 10 Seconds later, Mass Dispell, Mind Control is being cast, 2 strong and 5 weak undead spawn, Empowered Nova begins it’s cast. 1 Second later Empowered Nova. 1 Second Later Mind Control goes off. Begin P2 – Boss dps time, at least one person must be on dispell duty off the undead. All abilities continue on their rotation in the fight. 30 seconds later she Nova’s and becomes friendly again and begin P1 again.

Anyways this is my half baked rough sketch which needs to be clean up a bit but fun and something new.

So the second week of my experiment has ended and well I got really busy/lazy this week and only did 2 auction house posts on my new dk and played about 3 hours total to hit level 64. Ending gold for this week is 3600g. Not too bad for almost 0 effort put in this week. Bronze bars still seems to be where it is at for my “crafting” though I should probably pay a bit more attention to steel bars.

So now onto why I am an asshole. I don’t post the arrow trick anymore even though it was cheesy and a great money maker. I no longer piss off most scribes on my server with 1g undercuts just to be amusing. I do boot people from my ICC 5 man heroics though for doing less dps then my tank.

So here is your warning if you see Kamishi a DK tank in your ICC 5 man group and you don’t think you can pull 2.5k dps in your full epic’d out character you might as well leave right away and save yourself the boot after your 15 minute grace period is up because I will be booting you and if you don’t like it you can boot me from the group and I won’t mind because my ques are still instant. Pulls will stop at the 15 min mark and I will inform the group why they have stopped with a recount posting in group chat. Oh and if there are 2 of you slackers in my group I will just boot the lower dps one and pull a bit more till I can boot you as well, so don’t think you are safe either. Feel free to call me whatever you want on the way out the instance as well if my group is being idiotic and not booting you. I refuse to carry bads through ICC 5 mans. Any other 5 man I will carry your sorry excuse for dps through because I can solo those instances without you and the only thing you are doing is making it a bit faster for me to do so.

So here is to you Mr. 1.5k dps hunter who died running to the group after I just booted a 2k dps fury warrior with 2 or 5 items gemmed/chanted, got lost on the way to the instance to recover his corpse, died to poison nova, and informed me that he had never seen the end boss of this instance. Btw I promptly informed him he would still not be seeing the end boss of Heroic POS, which he responded huh? And then 57 seconds later his timer expired and he was promptly booted.

Week 1 of my experiment is over with my now level 61 DK (only char on server) on my friend’s server. My gold after purchasing flying at level 60 is 2400g. Mining is at 304 and skinning is at 307. So in essence I have made around 3000g gold in 6 levels on this server. Most of it has been me using smelting to make bronze bars. The profit on this server is ridiculous just for this item. Tin bar/ore 18g a stack, copper ore/bar 8g a stack = 40 bronze bars which go for 39g a stack! So I spend 26g and get 78g back. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. This has been a majority of my profits on this server so far since all I am trying to do is just keep my mining skill appropriate for my level so I can (inc curse word) farm up some titanium when I hit the mid 70’s to fund my change over to inscription/something else. I am guessing half way through the 60’s I should be able to get epic flying to speed up the process of running around a bit more, though with not being able to fly in Northrend till 77 on this character it may wait and be reinvested in other things to make more gold.

On a final note for week 1 I want to say to the people out there who are poor while leveling. You are doing it wrong! Did you sell that stack of rune cloth to a vendor…..then you are a moron. Did you sell that piece of green BOE gear to a vendor……Hi moron! Oh I know I used to be one of those morons, but then I became enlightened by other auction house gurus. The only thing anymore that gets sold to a vendor is something that is grey…..everything else goes on the auction house. It so insanely easy to make gold in this game that anyone can have 10k by level 80.

Now onto pug madness. Like everyone else in the game its the trendy thing to do pugs, and well to bitch about pugs too. Normally I don’t care about damage the puggies are doing since they are there basically to speed up my tanks run through a heroic. Last night though I had my fill of slacker dps because it was taking longer then normal to get through trash mobs. Before we even got to the first boss I was doing 50% of the groups damage! The group at this time was politely informed to pick up the dps. Most of the dps was in blues but 1k dps is abysmal even for blue geared people. 1k dps is what a level 70 does not a level 80. Even a slacker can pull 1.5k dps in blue gear. The kicker was one of the lowest dps players in the group was in almost all epics! The other epic’d person was a warrior in all furious pvp gear.

After that first explanation stating I was not about to carry slackers through a dungeon and for them to pick it up thing started to get a little bit faster. None of them still outdpsed my whopping 2300 dps as tank and I still ended up pulling 35% of the groups damage.

I think my new thing is I am going to start vote kicking slackers half way through the dungeons. Now slackers are not the under geared folks that know their class. I am talking about the morons who are pulling 1k or below dps in a heroic. The people who have reflexes of a stoned sloth. Its far faster to get a new dps then to deal with people who afk a bunch or just refuse to learn or try.

I have a few friends who play on a pvp server and figured I would start up a character over there and of course the quickest way to catch up to them in Wrath was starting a Death Knight. Since I play a DK on my main server as a tank this will not be an issue of relearning a class. Also with starting up a new character on this server I have no clue on the economy of this server yet and am just winging it for the time being.

Even with all of this lack of economy knowledge at this time I have managed to scrape up around 75g just from leaving the dk starting area by saving every scrap of cloth, all the white items, and all the uncommon items to sell on the auction house. This allowed me to pay for my glyphs right away out of the starting area and have some left to invest.

With that said the first 2 “professions” I am starting with is mining and skinning and the next few hours of play time will be towards working these up to respectable levels so that I may keep up with them as I actually level. This lead me to Silvermoon since I can farm the the dragon hawks and lynx’s for meat, leather, and eggs in one fell swoop. I will have to do a bit more research on where to find the best farming spots for leather and mining for the horde to make a smooth transition of areas.

In between the farming sessions I am joining the PVP que to beat on the alliance a bit, which is extremely odd since I am so used to playing alliance on my normal server. This also allows me to get Epic gems eventually to supplement my income on this server and a nice chunk of exp every day.

Overall I hope to see where this ends up after the next few months.

Well it appears my main server is an anomaly in terms of Primordial Saronite prices while on other servers I am on have done exactly as I predicted price would do. Prices on the 2 other servers I frequent other then my main one all dipped to around 1400g at the end of last week and then have been creeping back up in price to around 1500-1600g which I suspect by Fri. to reach 1700-1800g.  My main server on the other hand has not had the price of Primordial Saronite move in 2 weeks. Average auction house price seems to be around 2700g though if you work through the trade channel you can snag some between 2300-2500g. Populations on each of these servers is about the same, but age of the servers is where the difference is.

My main server is one of the original WOW servers while the others are only a couple years old. It stands to reason that my server has a lot more gold floating around on it and the more desirable items will stay at a premium for longer then on other servers. It also seems our stable price on those items is higher then on other servers. The anomaly in all of this is that items that are used on a regular basis are much cheaper then on the other servers. In general I can get trade skill materials at a much cheaper price on my main server then on any of the other servers that I play on.

So with all of this information how does it affect my gold production. It means there are more materials out there and a lot of competition to get those materials sold which makes it cheap for me to produce things. Unfortunately I am just one of the many who keep those producers in business and with it being so cheap to get in on the ground floor of any auction house business it means I have a lot of competition in whatever I do.  I don’t have an interest in choking out the competition by locking down the supply because with so many farmers it makes no sense because they could just refill the auction house faster then I could buy it out and make a hefty profit while doing it. So it looks like I have to deal with the situation at hand and not worry about it and just wait it out a bit longer then a normal server would have.
